Marisa Leo, the 39-year-old victim of femicide by her ex-partner, is now “alive” in a mural painted on a wall under the arch of Porta Garibaldi in Marsala by artist Fabio Ingrassia.

The woman, who was killed on the late afternoon of Wednesday, September 6 by 42-year-old Angelo Reina (who later committed suicide) during a “final clarifying meeting,” appears smiling in a red jacket while holding a sign that reads:

“My essence is not a commodity. Stop violence!”

Below the drawing, someone has left a vase with three red roses.

The mural reads, “You were and will be Light #marisaleo #stopviolence.”

“I firmly believe – writes the Sicilian artist on Facebook – that art will change the world, that with art you can reach people’s hearts, even the toughest ones. That is why I decided to donate my painting #Stopviolence for free so that it can reach everyone.

You just have to go to my website and download the file, hoping that this will be the last time all this happens.”

The message on the sign held by Marisa Leo, the 79th femicide victim this year, is red, like the “Codice Rosso” (Red Code), which is a law against domestic and gender-based violence that has been recently updated, and many installations (from benches to shoes) that can be found in almost every square or garden in Italy.

Clear and impactful words that Ingrassia wanted to emphasize through the image – his voice has tragically been silenced – of the latest victim of a chilling phenomenon.

The planned femicide

“The expert examination must be commissioned” and “in any case, the Prosecutor’s Office cannot and does not want to give information on the initial results or anything else, as these are investigative acts.” This is what the chief prosecutor of Marsala, Ferdinando Asaro, told ANSA about the autopsy on Marisa Leo’s body. According to what has been learned, the body has already been transferred last night from the Marsala cemetery to the Palermo Forensic Medicine Morgue, where the autopsy will take place.

It was a long-planned murder committed by Angelo Reina, who killed his ex-partner Marisa Leo with a .22 caliber carbine rifle. This emerges from the investigations carried out by the Mobile Squad of Trapani.

In recent weeks, the 42-year-old man had rented a car and inside, the police found other bullets from the same weapon used in the femicide. The owner of the rental agency himself came forward to speak to the investigators.

It was previously discovered that Reina had also had his ex-partner followed by a private investigator. The woman had filed a complaint against him in 2020 for stalking and had made other reports to the police against him, with whom she had broken up years ago due to ongoing fights. The two had a 4-year-old daughter together.

The daughter taken care of by her uncles

The little girl, who is now playing with her cousins at their house in Salemi, remains alone despite being surrounded by the love of her uncles and grandparents. The attention of the family is focused on her: since Thursday morning, the little girl has been at the home of Mauro, Marisa Leo’s only brother.

At the home of the labor consultant, who is married to a bank employee, the girl is having fun as if nothing has happened, also because she doesn’t know the truth.

“I told the little girl that mommy is away for work. A lie,
