Pomeriggio 5, Matano: “Lo stesso formato de La vita in diretta”

Alberto Matano is getting ready to return to television, and in the meantime, he has given an interview to Libero.it. Here’s what he said.

We are just a few days away from the first episode of the new season of La vita in diretta: the show hosted by Alberto Matano will be back to entertain millions of Italians on Monday, September 11th. In the meantime, the renowned journalist has given an interview to Libero.it, where he talked about his recent vacation and shared his thoughts on the new version of Pomeriggio Cinque, hosted by his friend and colleague Myrta Merlino.

Alberto Matano’s comment on Pomeriggio Cinque

As expected, during the interview, there was a mention of the new version of Pomeriggio Cinque. The popular afternoon talk show on Canale 5 returned to the airwaves last Monday and, for the first time, saw a change in its hosting: Myrta Merlino took the helm of the show instead of Barbara d’Urso. As Myrta Merlino is an old friend of Alberto Matano, he was asked to share his opinion on the new incarnation of Mediaset’s flagship afternoon program.

Matano couldn’t help but notice and highlight the striking resemblance between La vita in diretta and Pomeriggio Cinque, stating:

“I watched the episode, and I also read many comments on social media, where many users pointed out that this year Pomeriggio Cinque seems to draw inspiration from our format. This can only make me happy. Of course, each show has its own style, but the model seems to be that of La vita in diretta; even the new set design seems to resemble ours, so I’m pleased, it means we got the format right. After all, it’s not the first time competitors look to the public service broadcaster for inspiration, so: good!”

The new season of La vita in diretta

Among other things, Alberto Matano also talked about the new season of La vita in diretta, giving a few hints. He stated that the studio will be completely new, but certain elements that viewers have shown to appreciate will be kept: “You don’t change a winning formula. We will always focus on the most important news events, and then finish with lighter and more popular moments.”

Furthermore, the journalist said: “We have achieved good results, and we are ready to do even better. It’s true that viewership is increasing, and with it comes greater responsibility. It’s a great encouragement, a great gift, but also a strong motivation to continue to grow. I believe I have done my part: my experience, my baggage, and also my age, because when I started, I was 45, now I’m 50. So, I used the perspective of a forty-something in a show targeted at an afternoon audience, predominantly older.”

Recent vacation and appearance on Ballando con le stelle

Before delving into work matters, there was also time to talk about the recently concluded summer vacation that Matano spent away from the television world, in order to fully dedicate himself to his loved ones and relaxation. The journalist revealed that he completely turned off the television and, in doing so, “detoxed” himself and prepared to start the new TV season with renewed vigor.

“I had a great vacation, I completely turned off the television. It has been my method of detoxification ever since I worked on the news. Back then, I had fragmented vacations throughout the year, shorter ones. Now, with La vita in diretta, we go straight for ten months, so summer is really a time to disconnect. I spent long holidays with friends, love, family, the sea, no television: I turned the TV back on just two days ago,” said the host.

Finally, when talking about work, the inevitable question of whether he will be participating in the next season of Ballando con le stelle, the popular dance competition hosted by Milly Carlucci on Rai1, came up. “For now, I will be hosting La vita in diretta on Saturday afternoons instead of Italia Sì for four Saturdays. As for the rest, we’ll see what Milly says,” he said.

And when asked about the possibility of venturing into a completely different work experience in the future, Matano joked: “Oh, I don’t know, maybe. A dancer for a night?” Could this be a reference to Matano’s new role in the next season of Ballando? Only time will tell.
